  • United States Green Building Council has created a certification process called Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) for a variety building types.

  • Development Center for Appropriate Technology. DCAT is actively involved in rethinking the nature of the building codes. There is a wealth of useful info and links available on this site.
  • Building Codes and Natural Building by Coenraad Rogmans
  • Some thoughts on “Adobe Codes” by Dr. Fred Webster, a seismic engineer in California.
  • Sustainability and the Building Codes by David Eisenberg. This article was published in the Last Straw journal, and is from a paper presented at a national conference on building codes.
  • California Health and Safety Code guidelines for Strawbale structures. This code is being revised and must be adopted by each county in the State to be official.
  • The green home building website has some info and perspectives on using natural materials and dealing with building codes.
  • The Cob Code Project is a work in progress to develop recognized codes for building with Cob, which has its own complications related to the variability that is inherent in every batch.
